北海道の情景を描きシルクスクリーン技法で布作品を制作するテキスタイルブランド「Aobato」のPOPUP『小樽の日々を染める - Aobato 手ぬぐい展 -』を開催いたします。

小樽在住のAobatoは、小樽の海にやってくる鳥”アオバト”の視点になぞらえた情景をコンセプトに、季節の植物や暮らしの情景をモチーフにした手染めの布作品を制作しています。

作品に用いられるのは、「シルクスクリーン」と呼ばれる版画・印刷技法のひとつ。型紙を用いるこの技法は、日本の友禅染めや紅型、伊勢型紙、江戸小紋などをルーツに持ち、海外では「Japanese Stencil（ジャパニーズ・ステンシル）」とも呼ばれています。

一枚一枚手仕事によって染められた布には、北海道の風景や季節のうつろい、小樽での日々の営みが静かに映し出されています。

初夏の小樽にて、色とりどりのAobatoの手ぬぐいをどうぞお楽しみください。

プリンター小菅和成とデザイナー岩本奈々によるテキスタイルブランド。 小樽に住む鳥＜あおばと＞の視点になぞらえて、日々の中で通り過ぎ、またこれから出会うようなそんな北海道の景色を描いた絵柄をシルクスクリーンによる手捺染で一点一点染め上げ、手拭いとして仕上げています。 心地よく使っていただける「道具」として愛情を持って使っていただけること。その姿が先の世代にも繋がっていくことを願っています。

[Coloring Everyday Life in Otaru - Aobato Tenugui Exhibition -]

July 18–August 2, 2026

We are pleased to announce a pop-up event titled “Dyeing the Days of Otaru—Aobato Tenugui Exhibition” by “Aobato,” a textile brand that creates fabric works using silkscreen printing to depict scenes from Hokkaido.

Based in Otaru, Aobato creates hand-dyed textile works inspired by seasonal plants and scenes of daily life, using a concept that imagines the world from the perspective of the “Aobato” bird, which visits the waters off Otaru.

The brand uses “silkscreen,” a type of printmaking and printing technique. This stencil-based method has its roots in traditional Japanese dyeing techniques such as Yuzen, Bingata, Ise-katagami, and Edo Komon, and is also known overseas as “Japanese Stencil.”

Each piece of fabric, dyed by hand one by one, quietly reflects the landscapes of Hokkaido, the changing seasons, and the daily life of Otaru.
